Don Berry started his professional career at the Yarmouth Junior High School, before becoming principal of YCMHS shortly after the new building opened on Forest Street and grade nines were added.

Looking back on his time as a principal, He says loving what you did was the most important part.

“Seeing your students go from not being able to do things and then being able to be very successful in whatever career they choose , to be proud, and set goals for themselves was real uplifting feeling, that’s what has kept me young.”

Don has been a Board Member of several boards for the last several years as well as a substitute teacher filling in where needed with the local school board and with the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education.

He enjoys sitting on boards like Southwest Employment Services to stay in touch with the youth of today and give back to the community in helping shape the future of the board of directors. He hopes his role on the board will be working on race relations, and a leadership role on the board at some point.

“We’re going to see what new challenges come our way and what new things we need to adjust to and try to lead this organization in a positive direction.”
